How to be Confident with Acne

Remember that Filters exist

When you aimlessly scroll through social media, through the endless amounts of flawless faces, please remember that they are filters.

Next time you are watching a video of a flawless skin, have a look at what filter they are using. I started to do this randomly one day and was surprised to see how many un-natural faces we are presented with on social media.

Even Pictures are mostly always edited before posting. I have several images on my personal Instagram account, but ask me how many of them show my acne and I will struggle to answer. If my acne is visible, it was an accident.

Having said that! Don’t Hide your Acne!

So yes, my acne has been hidden in photos, but I now have a website with my acne exposed. I have learned over time that hiding acne only makes others feel like they need to hide theirs.

“Hiding your Acne only makes Others feel like they need to hide theirs”

Lots of Make up Experts

Alongside Filters we have the Make up experts that not only cover there acne but give themselves higher cheek bones, narrower noses and so on. Most of what we may deem as flawless is very rarely natural

People’s opinions only matter to themselves!

Ignoring people is easy said than done. This is advice I have come across often, but what about the teenager that can’t help but point it out or call you pizza face (which I have been called), or the small child that asks you “why have you got all them dots over your face” or even the grown adult that gives you advice on how to treat your skin. When you never asked! These comments are hard to ignore because you know inside that they have noticed your acne. Which will naturally make you feel that the whole world is staring at your acne.

So, what my advice instead is. People’s opinions only matter to themselves. Meaning, an individual’s opinions are a direct reflection of themselves. Some people are very surface layer and see the surface more clearly. But there are a lot of people that look past it. Sometimes I have mentioned my acne and had responses like “you don’t have acne” Once I have pointed it out, I have been told they didn’t even notice.

Have a think about anyone you know that has acne. Did you notice? Maybe you feel like you don’t know anyone with acne, which is great because it really means you didn’t notice. Even when you do notice, does it change who that person is to you. Do you think of them differently. Probably not. So why do we care whether people notice our acne or not.

People that do notice and treat you differently for it are people you definitely don’t need in your life. So thank your acne for filtering out the unnecessary.

Don’t let it affect your plans

We have all seen that girl in the movies that has to cancel a date because she has found a spot on her nose. Don’t be that person! Don’t miss out on life because of your spots. Even if it is because of a date. Yes so, I get it, it’s not ideal! But you are only knocking your own confidence. What advice would you give to a loved one, if they wanted to cancel something they are looking forward to because of a spot! Would you tell them to call the whole thing off. Remember that doing that is incredibly vain. It is also as pretend as the filters we use. Limiting ourselves to only socialising on clear skin days will do nothing for us in the long run, and only help to set your confidence backwards.

Pamper yourself

This is something I tend to do before big events, as I understand its hard going anywhere with big red lumps on your face. If I have a big day ahead, I drink loads of water and give my face all the calming things it loves and get an early night.

This always helps to calm my face for the next day making me feel more refreshed and confident. Sometimes I still have big spots but the redness will have reduced.

Embrace it

Fortunately for me Acne is the least of my worries. And it should be the least of yours! There are much worse things that could be happening People with wrinkles and grey hair can not all of a sudden hate life because of it, it is a natural process in life. Yes of course you can go and get a load of injections to help you out

Be Happy

Have you ever noticed that people who are happy just seam to glow! Maybe it’s just me. But try it feel happy and confident. Remember all the good things in your life and the things you have achieved and how your acne has no reflection on who you are.
