5 Tips – How to Improve Water Drinking Habits

We all know that we should be drinking lots of water everyday. Water is ta vital substance for human beings. Nevertheless a lot of us are not alone, we still struggle to drink enough water. Some finding it difficult to consume one glass within the day let alone the recommended 2 litres! So how can we make drinking water a natural habit?!

Before we find ways of increasing our water drinking lets remind ourselves of the benefits to drinking water

1. Look at it Differently

One of my favourite habit changers! it means to reprogram how your mind registers information. For instance seeing a science potion instead of a fizzy drink is what helps me cut fizzy drinks out of my life. They can actually look a bit disturbing now, particularly the bright oranges and green potions!

Here are a couple of ideas I have come up with for myself:

Fuelling the body

Someone once said to me: “you wouldn’t continue to drive your car on empty”, however we continue to allow our bodies to run on empty, without its own version of fuel. This absolutely put me in thought! I decided to think of water as fuel for the body treat it in the same way as we do our cars. As a Result this helped me to increase my water drinking, I need to keep my body as fuelled up as my car.

Plants

If you grow herbs you will know that they need watering everyday or they will quickly look sad and droopy. Find a way to see how important this is for plants and realise that our own system needs water everyday. I water my herbs and then I water me!

2. Buy a water Bottle you love to carry!

Obviously buying a water bottle sometimes just isn’t enough! Shamefully, I have a cupboard full of unused water bottles. When I used to waste time watching Love Island, I became a big fan for the Love Island Water bottles. At the time I only owned water bottles that excluded a straw. Seeing the islanders constantly drinking out of a straw and not having to lift the bottle to drink made me want one. It made drinking water fun and I loved carrying around the stylish personalised bottle.

Now I have a glass water bottle now, that I love! It comes with a cute handle, and just looks so cool. I carry it everywhere with me. I seem to drink a lot more water having the bottle near me. you will be surprised how many moments you reach for your water bottle and drink.

Find a bottle you enjoy to carry around with you. You will be surprised at how many times you drink out of it just by it being there.

3. Compete with a friend!

Me and a work colleague both wanted to keep up our water intake so we decided to compete set a target for each day and see who is able to get the closest. We had a bet at the end of the month, whoever won by adding up each days progress would get brought lunch. This gives you something to work towards and brings out the competitive spirit in the process.

4. Remove other options

Whenever my sister visits my house she always moans about the lack of drink choices I offer her. Often guests are offered a drink of water or a water with squeezed lime/lemon or fruit infused water. These are the only options I keep in the house excluding warm drinks. It means that whenever I want a drink I only have one thing to choose from, Water!

5. Make it Fun

At home I have a water filter and a jug. In the jug I daily fill it with lemon, orange slices and blueberries! There is something about all the lovely colours in the water makes you keep drinking. Not only can you taste hints of the fruits, but me and my partner are convinced that the water itself feels smoother, making it more refreshing and enjoyable to drink.

This way may not work for everyone, but for me it has been one of my most easiest ways to get water down me. Especially in the summer!

Now this is an idea I could sink my teeth into — ah, swim my teeth in??? (But I already swim my teeth in water every night when I go to bed! Doesn’t that count?)
These are definitely good ideas to help people drink more water in a day. My way was to make the water fizzy, as in make it carbonated. We have a SodaStream carbonizer that adds fizzy bubbles to any liquid. It works for my partner, she now drinks water like a camel about to cross a desert. And it worked for me — for about two weeks. Scientists tell me water has no taste, and if that is true, I find water to be the worst-tasting tasteless liquid I can put in my mouth.
I was spoiled years ago when I lived in the Rocky Mountains. I lived near a cliff that had a tiny stream running down its face. That water was chock-full of minerals and things that tasted fantastic to me, even if not to anyone else. That was the mead of the gods. Then some rich asshole built a house on top of the cliff, and it wasn’t long before the taste of the water changed. I ended up moving back to the prairies on which I had been born, but where the water never tasted like the water in that stream. I just do not like the taste of treated water, and none of the physical tricks you suggest above ever worked for me.
I will say I do “wish” cars could use water for fuel, but last I heard the guy who invented an engine that could run on water sold the patent to an oil company, who buried it so deep it will never be found.

Rawgod, I am so appreciative that you have taken the time to read my blog. Thank you so much

You made me laugh when you said your wife drinks water like a camel crossing a dessert!

I also heard about the man who made water run cars!!

You are absolutely right. The water where I live in England tastes like chlorine, It smells so high I could probably clean my whole house in just the water alone and it smell like bleach at the end.

But I have put myself on a strict routine with water, mainly because of my acne and drinking water helps so much. I have to filter my water, sometimes if I have time I boil it first. My mother in law keeps telling me to buy a distiller, but they are a bit expensive for me currently.

Its a shame that someone brought a house on top of a cliff, as that water was probably the best water for you.

My next water adventure will be to get a distiller and I will let you know if they are what they are cracked up to be
